1. WHAT IS Traditional ACUPUNCTURE?

Acupuncture is a component of traditional Chinese medicine that originated in China over 4,000 years ago. Acupuncture (from Lat. acus, "needle" (noun), and pungere, "prick" (verb)) or in Standard Mandarin, zhÄ“n jiÇ” (lit: needle - moxibustion) is a technique of inserting and manipulating filiform needles into "acupoints" on the body with the aim of restoring health and well-being. More than 365 acupoints are located primarily within their pathways, known as “meridians and channels”, which move vital energy (Qi) throughout the body. If the vital energy moving along a meridian is insufficient, overflowing, or blocked, a Yin Yang imbalance results and illness develops. Acupuncture balances the energy flow and stimulates spontaneous healing in the body.

3. HOW DOES ACUPUNCTURE WORK?

Modern science has shown that there are numerous theories about how acupuncture works. Some of them are:
Acupuncture promotes the release of endorphins and enkephalins, which have pain-relieving properties.
Acupuncture influences the release of positive neurotransmitters, substances that transmit nerve impulses to the brain.
Acupuncture influences the autonomic nervous system.
Acupuncture promotes blood circulation.

4. IS ACUPUNCTURE SAFE?

Yes. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration regulates acupuncture needles for use by licensed practitioners, requiring that needles be manufactured and labeled according to certain standards. For example, the FDA requires that needles be sterile, nontoxic, and labeled for single use by qualified practitioners only. When performed by properly trained and licensed practitioner, acupuncture is safe and effective, free from adverse or addictive side effects. Commonly, a sense of relaxation and well-being come about during and after treatments. While experiencing therapy for one weakness, other imbalances may resolve alongside. This is a common side benefit that again demonstrates the value of balancing the quality and quantity of “vital energy” within the entire person.

5. WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT ON MY FIRST VISIT?

Your first visit will last from 60-90 minutes. The practitioner will gather a detailed health history, listen to your concerns, and answer any questions you have regarding Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine. You will be asked questions about your current health, your health history, your lifestyle and emotional well-being. The practitioner may utilize traditional pulse and tongue reading to finalize and determine a treatment plan. You will relax on the treatment table or sit on chair while the practitioner gives you a treatment using acupuncture needles. After the treatment, you will have time to discuss anything that may have come up for you during the treatment. The practitioner will discuss treatment plan and follow up appointments that may be beneficial.

6. HOW MANY TREATMENTS DOES IT TAKE BEFORE I FEEL BETTER?

Everyone is different, and it depends on the different symptoms and their body responds. About 80% of patients experience positive changes after just one treatment. Usually I recommend patient take 3 treatment as a treating cycle. Because after one treatment maybe they feel better but it doesn't mean the problem totally solved. If we don't continue their treatment, the problem will come back soon. For patient with longer or chronic history, it will take them more treating cycle to complete.

7.HOW OFTEN DO I NEED TO COME FOR TREATMENT?

It depends on the complexity of the symptoms. Treatments are done on a weekly basis, usually two to three times a week for the first one to two weeks, and gradually decreases from there. Once the condition has been controlled and you are symptom-free, the treatments are done less frequently. Symptoms that have been around for a long time usually take more treatments to resolve than ones that have come about recently. Your treatment course will be determined after the first visit and reassessed after each session.

8. WHAT ARE CUSTOM CHINESE HERB FORMULAS?

Chinese herbal formulas are a vital component of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) . The herbs we uses are concentrated powders derived from the raw Chinese herbs. They are 100% natural and free from any preservatives. They are safe when properly prescribed by an experienced TCM practitioner. The effectiveness of these customized herbal formulas is directly correlated with the practitioner’s experience to prescribe the correct combination based on the pattern of disharmony diagnosis. Unlike over-the-counter herbs, these formulas are specially mixed for each individual and are often modified as the healing process progresses. Acupuncture and Chinese herbs work together to motivate the healing process: Acupuncture can help the energy (Qi) flowing with proper direction in the right channels with specific acupoints and herbs work on the organs at a cellular level to restore the energy.

10. HOW CAN I PREPARE FOR MY SESSION?

It is best to eat a light meal before your appointment so that your body has energy to work with. Sometimes a person who has not eaten will feel light headache or weak when receiving an acupuncture treatment. In this case, inform your practitioner immediately and I will take the appropriate actions. Do not engage in strenuous activity, drink alcohol, smoke excessively, or ingest heavy meals before or after your treatment. This will allow the body to adjust to the effects of the acupuncture.

Also wear some loose and comfortable cloths which is easy for you to show your uncomfortable area.
